Breath of the Wild was Nintendo’s first switch release for the Zelda series. It was released simultaneously on the Wii U on March 3, 2017 worldwide and can be played on either console.
Breath of the Wild boasts a large, open world to explore and uncover the ancient shrines hidden throughout Hyrule. Actions such as swimming, climbing, and gliding with the paraglider are limited to how much stamina Link has. Fortunately stamina, as well as health, can be increased by collecting spirit orbs from various shrines you may discover. Link may also cook a variety of food dishes that can restore health and stamina, as well as other potential benefits such as increased attack power for a short time. Instead of having a permanent item, a new durability mechanic was introduced in Breath of the Wild. This causes items to break after some use making item management something to consider while playing.
By activating towers and shrines scattered throughout Hyrule, Link is able to travel around quickly to get to his next objective. Weather changes in the game effects different mechanics as well. Thunderstorms will cause lightning strikes to be drawn to metallic objects and rain will make it much more difficult to climb cliff sides.
The koroks have also scattered and holding precious Korok Seeds. Collecting these seeds allows Link to increase the amount of weapons, bows, or shields he is able to carry. This can be very valuable as progress into the game continues and enemies grow more difficult.
